William Hodgkinson Obituary

Published by Smart Cremation Texas on Dec. 28, 2021.
Bill Hodgkinson passed away peacefully on Dec 28, at the age of 78, in Aptos, California, after a long bout with Parkinson's Disease. Bill was born in San Francisco to Catherine and Albert Hodgkinson on May 18, 1943. He grew up surrounded by family, enjoying large family celebrations with food and music supplied by fellow family members. From a young age, his mother noticed his fascination with music and he began piano lessons at the young age of 6, continuing into his teens when he formed a band to play at high school parties. Bill started his adult musical career in the Army as the general's piano player in Berlin before the fall of the wall. He would often entertain us with stories of amusing fiascos as his Army unit acted as ambassador to visiting dignitaries. He continued to play professionally in the Bay Area. Always willing to share his music with others throughout his life, he entertained friends and family at weddings, anniversaries and family events. He transitioned from professional musician to building contractor in his middle years, working in Marin and Sonoma counties until he retired in 2006. Bill was a friend to all, and his pleasant personality attracted a large group of friends, many of whom visited in his last days to reminisce about shared memories. To the end, he maintained his capacity for graciously reminding others he loved them. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Joyce; his siblings: Carol Labarthe (Rob), Bobby Hodgkinson (Annie), Michael Hodgkinson; his children: Chris Elkins (Luisa), Anna Paris (Steve), Eve Lundsten (Lonny), and Joseph Hodgkinson (Courtney), and his six grandchildren: Kaya, Roman, Lake, Olive, River and Leila. He would agree that his life didn't end, it was just interrupted. He has fought the good fight. He has finished the race. He has kept the faith. He has moved on to his new home in Heaven. Memorial service to be held on January 27, 11 pm, at Central Coast Veterans Cemetery, Seaside, CA.

Bill wasn't too impressed with my singing "Amazing Grace" to him at his bedside. His reaction is one I will never forget: A slight grimace, and a very low-voiced "Ah.. No" --- As if he couldn't wait for the last verse to be sung.

This was a blow to my "musician's ego", however, his reaction has driven me to continue working on my "singing" voice and to never give up;)

Last, I will not write the words "With Sympathy" because I am assured that those who have put their faith and trust in Jesus Christ as their Savior is promised life eternal in Heaven. You made it, Bill. I'll be seeing you some day in that wonderful Kingdom!
