DANA-William E. Hooper, 78, of Dana, Indiana died at 5:53 am Thursday, May 10, 2012 at his residence. He was retired from the control room of Public Service Indiana Cayuga Generating Station with 31 years of service. He was born August 1, 1933 in West Terre Haute, Indiana to the late H. Ervin Hooper and Mae Kluesner Hooper. Survivors include his wife Sherry Clark Hooper; also surviving, two sons, Thomas E. (Tammy) Hooper of Martinez, Georgia and James R. (Gina) Hooper of Clinton, Indiana; two daughters, Denise L. (Kevin L.) Porter of Chrisman, Illinois and Amy S. (Cloyd Miller) Payton of Perrysville, Indiana; two brothers, Jerry (Jonnie Mae) Hooper of West Terre Haute, Indiana and Ben (Bev) Hooper of Shelburn, Indiana; four sisters, Marji (Jim) Bays of Terre Haute, Indiana, Martha (Ron) Lowe of Brownsburg, Indiana, Judith (Lyle) Lepper of Fairland, Indiana and Debbie (Steve) Moore of Marshall, Illinois; two brothers-in-law, Joe Lindsey of Terre Haute, Indiana and Larry (Pam) Clark of Princeton, Indiana; three sisters-in-law, Linda Hooper of West Terre Haute, Indiana, Bonnie Hopper of Terre Haute, Indiana and Sharon(Karl) Newcomb of Evansville, Indiana; nine grandchildren, Levi B. (Kaitlin) Porter, Dusty C. Porter, Shelby L. Porter, Blake W. Hopper, Jodie D. (Ryan) Johnson, E. Tyler Payton, Logan R. Payton, Alyssa R. Hopper and Danielle M. Hooper; three great-grandchildren, Lillian, Darian and Elijah; many, many nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Gerald, Tim and Glenn Hooper; one sister, Nancy Lindsey. He was a graduate of Valley High School in West Terre Haute. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a Past Master of the former Dana Masonic Lodge and a member of Perrysville Masonic Lodge. He loved working on computers, was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan, loved vacationing, music, his dog Maggie and spending time with family. Services will be 11:00 am Saturday, May 12, in Overpeck-Gooch Funeral Home at 225 N. Maple Street in Dana, with the Rev. Marvin Miller officiating. Burial will follow services in Camerer Cemetery in rural Chrisman, Illinois. Visitation is from 5-8 pm on Friday, May 11, and one hour before services on Saturday at Overpeck-Gooch Funeral Home. The family would offer a special thanks to Dr. Curtis Oehler and the staff of Vista Care Hospice and well as all family and friends who offered support and care for Bill.
