William (Bill) Brodnax Hopkins lll was born in Laredo, Texas on September 11, 1933 and died in Houston, Texas on November 8, 2022. He was preceded in death by his mother Helen Irene Vaughn Hopkins and father William B. Hopkins ll, his adoptive parents Richard Furman and Eleanor Lee Furman and grandparents Judge William B. Hopkins l and Edna Hopkins, from Corpus Christi, Texas. He is survived by the love of his life for 64 years - his wife Margie Marie Thomas Hopkins, three married children and their spouses; William B. Hopkins IV and Janet, Karen Lee and Greg Bonifield of Charleston,S.C., Brent R. Hopkins and Mara of Pearland, Texas, eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and his sister Helen Lee Hopkins Adair of Dallas, Texas.
Bill lived in South Texas during early life, including Corpus Christi, Laredo and Victoria. He moved to Houston in 1955. Academics included Sewanee / University of the South, the University of Texas, and University of Houston. He graduated with a BS in Petroleum Engineering at night school. He was a reservoir evaluation engineer for Ralph E. Davis Associates for 35 years before starting his own oil and gas consulting company - working with clients located in the U.S and internationally. Prior to and following retirement he served in many volunteer capacities: Namely, Scoutmaster, and then District Director of the Boy Scouts in Harris County, income tax advisor for the AARP Foundation, member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, Jaycees, Rotary Club, Spring Branch Independent School District as a substitute Math and Science teacher, Hey Lollies Square Dance Club, Westchester Home Owners Board, Memorial Super Neighborhood. He was a Director of the Spring Branch Memorial Sports Association and coached many teams. Serving on the Financial, Mission and Grant committees for the Memorial Drive United Methodist Church where he ushered for 36 years, was a member for over 40 years and participated in many mission trips. Bill leaves behind a deep and lasting legacy of devoted love to his family and a heart of service to his community.
A Memorial Service and Reception will be held at Memorial Drive United Methodist Church at 12955 Memorial Drive on November 18, 2022 at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, etc. donations should be sent to Sewanee / University of the South - Office of Gift Planning 735 University Avenue Sewanee, TN 37375-9906 or Memorial Drive United Methodist Church 12955 Memorial Dr., Houston, TX 77079.

I knew Bill for about 30 years as a neighbor and friend. He and I served on our neighborhood board together and he was tireless in his efforts to improve our neighborhood. He was a wonderful person and will be greatly missed.
