Obituary published on Legacy.com by Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes - Laingsburg Chapel on Oct. 1, 2025.
William Glenn Horne, age 75 of Laingsburg, left this world peacefully on September 23, 2025, at his home. A funeral service to honor and celebrate his life will be held at 5:00 PM on Friday, September 26, 2025, at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, 203 E. First North St.,
Laingsburg, MI 48848. Dr. Tom Rundel will officiate. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM until the time of the service.
Known affectionately as Bill to his loved ones, he was born on December 18, 1949, in Butler County, Pennsylvania. Bill's journey began as the beloved son of Francis and Thelma (Stephenson) Horne. His childhood was spent on the family farm, where he forged lasting bonds with his siblings Joyce, Francis, and Roy.
A proud alumnus of Slippery Rock High School, Class of 1968, Bill's formative years laid the foundation for his strong character and work ethic.
Bill's commitment to his country was evident when he enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1969, serving with honor and bravery until his discharge as a Sergeant in 1973.
On July 4, 1972, Bill met his heart's match in Jacqueline Forquer. They married on May 25, 1974, in Lansing, Michigan. Together, they moved to Laingsburg in 1975, where they raised their growing family, welcoming children Edward W. (Julia) Allen, Angeline Levendoski, Linda (Andy) Wright, and William L. Horne. On the rare occasion we have the opportunity to pick our family, Bill and Jacqueline did just that, welcoming in a "chosen daughter", Jeanna Kelley. Bill's legacy continued to flourish with the joy of his grandchildren: Tyler, Evelyn, Kayla, Owen, Shelby, Kaitlynn, Isabella, and Payton.
Bill's dedication to the Laingsburg Community Schools, where he began working in 1991 until his retirement in 2022, was a testament to his passion for serving others. His hands, rarely idle, could build and repair almost anything-a skill that made him a treasured resource to family and friends alike.
His love for nature was a defining aspect of his life. Bill found solace in the great outdoors, whether he was tending to his garden or patiently waiting during hunting season. These moments of quiet reflection were among his most cherished.
Bill's siblings, Roy Horne and Joyce Cranmer, along with several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends, survive him, celebrating the memory of a man who was the epitome of handy, courageous, and generous. He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis G. Horne and Thelma (Russ) Kline, and his brother, Francis Horne.
In every aspect of his life, Bill displayed an unwavering commitment to his family, his work, and his country. His legacy is not only in the structures he built or the gardens he tended but in the strong family ties he fostered and the countless lives he touched through his generous spirit.
All are invited to attend a gathering at Victor Township Hall immediately following the service for continued food and fellowship.
