William Gregory Howard

William Gregory Howard was born on September 3, 1951, in Albemarle County, Virginia, the son of Nathaniel L. and Elnora T. Howard. Affectionately known as "Willie" by friends, family, co-workers, and the many he mentored, he touched countless lives with his warmth and wisdom.

Willie dedicated decades to serving others through his professional work. He began his career as an Accountant at the American Red Cross where he spent 10 years, later joining the American Foundation for Donation and Transplantation, an organization he proudly served for more than 20 years. Throughout his career, Willie found deep fulfillment in helping others, always offering advice and lending a hand to those navigating life's challenges. Beyond his work, he had a passion for historic cars and enjoyed visiting car shows. He loved to travel, frequently making trips up and down I-95 to visit family and friends. Willie was suddenly called home to rest on January 2, 2026.

Willie was loved and is survived by his wife Diane and his two sons: Christopher Howard of Crofton, MD, and Britt Howard (wife Samantha) of Upper Marlboro, MD; stepson Bryan Thomas of Phoenix, AZ; four grandchildren Emma, Elizabeth, Dimas, and Delia; two brothers, Leroy and David; two sisters, Junita and Patricia; brother-in-law Charles Steward; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Willie was preceded in death by both of his parents; the mother of his children, Michele Howard; six brothers: Nathaniel Jr., Larry, Gary, Joseph, James, and Richard; and two sisters, Alice and Sarah Howard.

Willie's legacy of kindness, generosity, and unwavering dedication to helping others will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love, support, and prayers during this difficult time. Your comforting words and gestures have been a source of strength and solace.

Funeral services will be held at Crozet Baptist Church on Saturday, January 24, 2026. Interment will be held privately at the family cemetery in Browns Gap.
