William Johnson Obituary

Published by Legacy on Dec. 11, 2025.
William Luther Johnson was born March 29th, 1942 and passed away peacefully in his sleep December 8th, 2025. He is preceded in death by his father Luther Johnson, his mother Amelda Cusack and brother Robert Johnson. He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Judy, son Scott (Jeanine), son Todd (Denise), two grandchildren, Parker and Faith, his cousin, Jill Crooker, and many nieces and nephews

Bill was a loving husband of almost 60 years, a great dad, fun uncle and grandfather. Bill grew up in the city of Chicago where he played football in high school and then went on to play football in college at South Dakota State University. Bill graduated from Southern Illinois University where he received a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.

Bill was respected as a Mechanical Engineer and was often requested by the general contractor to work on a project for his problem-solving skills, whether it was a remodel, an expansion of a college laboratory wing, a hospital, a prison, a government building, a casino or other type of large project.

Bill was always the life of the party after a softball game, at a family event, at a neighborhood party, at a parent's hospitality suite at an out-of-town swim meet or hockey tournament.

Bill was very involved in his two sons' sports, whether it was swimming, soccer, football, hockey or baseball, Bill was in the middle of it all. As a matter of fact, he coached one of his son's football teams for four years, went to three championships and won two of them.

Bill was a Cub/Boy Scout Dad and a fishing Dad. Dozens of summers you would find him fishing with his two boys. Bill loved the outdoors. Later in life he found his passion for hunting. Not only did he hunt, but he also had four decorated AKC and NAHRA Yellow Labs. But he didn't stop there. He also judged AKC and NAHRA hunt tests. And yet again Bill found himself the life of the party at his hunting and retriever clubs.

Bill lived a fulfilling life making a good life for his family. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Bill be made to:
