William T. "Bill" Jones, 98, passed away peacefully at home on October 10, 2024 surrounded by family. Born in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio to Grover and Sarah (Lamp) Jones, he resided in the Akron area most of his life. Bill retired in 1986 from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company with 35 years of service. He was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ, where he served as an Elder. Bill enjoyed helping people, traveling to every state, making people laugh (he never met a stranger) and spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Jean Darnell Jones (1947-2004); his second wife, Mary Frances Gaither Sullivan Jones (2005-2022); grandson, Shane Harmon; sisters, Genetta, Delores, Doris, Virginia, Barbara Jean. He will be sadly missed by his children, Karen Moore, Craig (Dawn) Jones, Gail (Karl) Ulmer; grandchildren, Kara, Ben, Lori (Matt), Luke, Jena (Mark); great grandchildren, Justus (Cade), Charlie Kate, Clea (Jake), Carter, Barrett, Reed, Emilie, Noelle, Isaac, Josie; great great grandchildren, Wheeler, Neely; sister, Betty Pledger; step-children, step grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
Family and friends are invited to visit Friday, October 18, 2024 from 12 noon to 1 p.m. at Newcomer, Akron Chapel, 131 N. Canton Rd. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Oakwood Cemetery. Those who wish may make memorial donations in Bill's name to the West Side Church of Christ, 645 N. Revere Rd., Akron, Ohio 44333.
