William Jones Obituary

William Nathan Jones

January 21, 1937 - December 19, 2025

William "Bill" Jones died peacefully at home surrounded by his family with his wife at his side praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet, on December 19, 2025.

Bill was born on January 21, 1937, at home during a snowstorm in Saranac Lake, N.Y. He was the oldest of four children of Raymond Nathan Jones and Hazel (Nason) Jones.

Bill "Jonesy" attended South Glens Falls High School, where he played basketball and ran track. Bill held the track team's half-mile record (2:01.4) for well over a decade. He graduated high school in 1956 and then attended Harpur College. He went on to play on the Massie's Olympics semi-pro basketball team. It was at a Massie's Olympics party where he first danced with the love of his life, Elaine (Luciano). They were married on August 24, 1963, at St. Michael's Church in South Glens Falls, where they remained parishioners.

Bill had a great sense of humor and was a kind and gentle man. He loved his family and being around his grandchildren. Bill loved listening to 50's music and dancing with his wife. He enjoyed the outdoors, including hunting, fishing, golfing and bird watching. He enjoyed several activities with his children and grandchildren, including playing chess, crossword puzzles and wood working projects. Bill was an avid Boston Celtics and Boston Red Sox fan. He also enjoyed watching track and field and was passionate about the NCAA March Madness basketball tournament and following his brackets.

Bill worked for the Coca-Cola bottling company, the Prudential Insurance Company, and was employed as the store manager at the Cumberland Farms in Warrensburg, N.Y. for 32 years. After retirement he looked forward to attending all of his grandchildren's academic, musical, theatrical, and sporting events. He enjoyed celebrating reunions and holidays, especially Christmas Eve, surrounded by his family.

He was predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Hazel Jones; his in-laws, Dominick and Carmella Luciano; his two brothers, Dale Jones and Wayne Jones; his sister, Rita Kopp; and his sister-in-law, Darlene (Smith) Luciano.

Left to cherish his memory besides his loving wife of 62 years, Elaine; are his children, Christopher (Ginelle) Jones, Amy (Matt) LaPoint, and Patience Morris (Dean Fountain); six grandchildren, Matthew LaPoint (Peter Card), Nicholas (Shannon) LaPoint, Rebecca LaPoint (Henry Riley), Raymond Jones (Emma Nelson), Isabella Morris, and Julian Morris; two great-grandchildren, Liam and Noah LaPoint; sisters-in-law, Lynda Jones, Lorraine Jones, Jeannette Luciano, and Ginny Brophey; brothers-in-law, Tom Luciano and Sam Luciano; and several nieces and nephews.

We are eternally grateful to the Community Hospice for their care and compassion, including Jill, Amanda, Danielle, Karen, and Tom. A heartfelt thank you to Maureen Linehan and our special angel, Penny Sciancalepore, who was with us to the end.

In lieu of flowers, kindly send donations to: The Community Hospice, 179 Lawrence St., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866; St. Michael's Church, 80 Saratoga Avenue, South Glens Falls, NY 12803; or The South High Marathon Dance, 42 Merritt Road, South Glens Falls, NY 12803.
