William Jones Obituary

William Lee Jones was born February 27, 1940, in Fayette, Iowa, the son of William and Doris (Pritchard) Jones. He joined the United States Navy at the age of 17, in 1958, and retired after 20 years of service. William was located in San Diego, California, Newport, Rhode Island and Memphis, Tennessee. While in the Navy, he worked in aviation and flight simulators. William was a 33rd Degree Mason and belonged to the Independence Lodge #87 AF&AM, St. Paul's Lodge #14 F&AM in Middleton, Rhode Island and the Scottish Rite in Cedar Rapids. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, reading, crossword puzzles and watching the Washington Commanders. William also spent 20 years wintering in Texas.
William passed away on Monday, January 12, 2026, at Sunrise Hill Care Center at the age of 85. He is preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Julia Frederick; two brothers, Daniel Jones and James Jones and two sisters, Janice Graham and Betty Beck. William is survived by his wife, Grace Bandy of Waterloo; son, Steve Jones of Evansdale; daughter, Teresa (Sherri) Frederick of Lewisville, Texas; two grandchildren, Kathryn and Alister Frederick of Lewisville, Texas and a sister, Kaye (Louie) Sells of Lakeland, Florida.
Visitation: Friday, January 16, 2026, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, with a Masonic Service from Independence Lodge #87 at 10:30 am, at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, 965 Home Plaza, Waterloo.
Funeral Service: Friday, January 16, 2026, at 12:00 pm, at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories.
Burial: Grandview Cemetery in Fayette, Iowa, with Military Rites conducted by the American Legion Post 339 and United States Navy.
