I will miss my calls from Rick on special occasions, especially at 12:01 a.m. every New Year's Day, wishing me a Happy New Year. We have been friends since he was a student here at Stonewall Jackson Middle School so I have many fond memories of him, his kindness, our lunch dates and how he saw some good in most every situation. His love of flying was his greatest joy. I feel that he is flying among the angels now.

You are all in our prayers. I know how hard this has been on your family. We are thinking about you all.

Dear Mrs. Kidd:
I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I will never forget how brilliantly Rick played both the piano and organ. He possessed such a gift with music. I remember how courageous he was as a child challenged by diabetes. I always respected his attitude about having to give himself insulin shots, as I was far too scared of needles to watch. I am thankful that Rick also had the courage to be himself. After being childhood friends and losing touch for many years, I was fortunate to see him again about six years ago when he was working for the U.S. Airways commuter airline and worked on a flight into Lynchburg. He had a great sense of humor and really seemed to enjoy life. God bless you and all the others who mourn Rick's loss. I am confident that he is in Heaven right now playing music for God and the angels.
