William Eugene King (Sep 18, 1934 – Sep 25, 2025)
'Gene' King was born in Pell City, Alabama to Walter King and Ada Matthews on September 18, 1934. He attended high school in Pell City, Alabama and was later accepted into a Automatic Data Processing Intern Class Number 1, a new computer training and internship program for the Department of the Army in Rock Island, Illinois.
At the computer training and internship program, Gene met and proposed to the love of his life, Dolores Seitler. Gene and Dolores were married in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on October 29, 1960. Gene was selflessly dedicated to his wife for all his adult life. Gene never missed an opportunity to tell family and friends how he met the love of his life. Gene's love for Dolores was monumental. They had three children: Greg (1961), Sharon (1963), and Maria (1969).
Gene's career as a federal civilian for the Department of the Army and later the Department of the Navy led to assignments in Texas, Alabama, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and Washington DC. He retired from federal civil service in 1994. His wife Dolores, passed away in 2003 and Gene continued to live independently in
Fairfax, Virginia until his passing in 2025.
Gene entered into full communion with the Roman Catholic Church in 1970 following the birth of his youngest daughter Maria. He remained a devout Catholic from 1970 until his passing.
At heart, Gene was a simple, loving soul who imparted a love of family and his southern upbringing. He enjoyed watching college and professional football and baseball. Gene was an extraordinary role model and exhibited a unique love of family. He enjoyed spending time with his family more than anything, especially during the holidays. He greatly loved his 2 granddaughters, who referred to him as "Poppy" and was exceptionally proud of their accomplishments.
Gene will be missed dearly by all that knew him. He is survived by his brother Terry, his predeceased brother Harold, and his three children and their spouses: Greg and Helen King, Sharon and Tom Adams, and Maria and Jonathan Sands, and his two granddaughters: Katy Adams and Marissa Probst.
