When we were little and needed daddy to bring something home from Gray Drug store we wrote it on his lunch bag. I needed an item and wrote it on the bag. He didn't bring it home the first night. I figured he was busy and didn't get to it. So I wrote it on the bag again. Still no item the next night so I asked him. He said when you learn how to spell it, I'll bring it home - it was my first introduction to using the dictionary and how I learned to spell stenographer as a I needed a stenographer's notebook. I still use the dictionary if I don't know how to spell something - though now it's usually on line.
Another favorite memory from some 60+ years ago is every Sunday sitting on the arm of his chair as he read the funny papers to me - each character had their own voice. I look at the comics now and can still hear Dagwood's and Blondie's voices or the cast of Andy Capp.
All my love... your oldest daughter not living at home /mari
