William Edward Kroger, age 75, died Friday, October 24 at Banner University Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ.

Bill was born on February 2, 1950 in Chicago, IL to William Edward and Mary Jane (Biegler) Kroger. He graduated from Lane Tech High School in 1967 and graduated from Northeastern Illinois University in 1971, receiving his degree in Education. After graduating from college Bill taught at the Chicago Public Schools before joining the Northbrook Police Department in 1973 as a patrol officer. He was promoted to detective in 1982, sergeant in 1984, commander in 1994, and detective commander in 2002. Bill retired from the police department in 2003 after 30 years of service. After retiring, he was a substitute teacher at Mundelein High School.

Bill married Cynthia Thornton on January 15, 1977. They lived in Mundelein, IL with their two children, Kristin and William, where Bill was actively involved in his kids' interests. Bill and Cindy moved to Surprise, AZ in 2005 and they lived there for 20 years. Bill worked at Sun City Grand Recreation Center as a fitness monitor for 9 years. He was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan, loved rock and smooth jazz music, enjoyed reading, playing softball, and playing cards.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, sister Paulette Novak, nephew William Lemke, and son-in-law Paul Dugenske. He is survived by his wife Cindy, daughter Kristin, son William, sister Diana, and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at Camino del Sol Funeral Chapel & Cremation Center in Sun City West, AZ in February 2026.
