William Levett Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Schepp Family Funeral Homes R. H. Schepp & Son Minoa Chapel on Dec. 24, 2025.
William "Bill" Gregory Levett, 73, of Canastota, NY, previously of Syracuse, NY, passed away on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse, NY.
Bill was born on June 13, 1952, in Syracuse, NY. He spent much of his life in Central New York, where he built both his career and his family.
Bill worked for many years as a flooring installer with Town and Country Linoleum and Carpet before becoming the owner and operator of Levett Flooring, a business that reflected his strong work ethic, skill, and pride in doing things right. Known as someone who could fix just about anything, Bill approached his work-and life-with determination and care.
Bill found his greatest joy on the water. He loved fishing for walleye, boating, and spending time at Sand Lake and Oneida Lake, where many treasured memories were made with family and friends. He was known for his warm smile, infectious laugh, and for being a genuinely good person. Above all, Bill cherished his family, especially the joy his grandchildren brought into his life. To them, he was proudly known as "Grandpa''
While Bill's final years were filled with challenges, he met them with resilience, humor, and a readiness to keep moving forward. His strength and spirit never faded.
Bill was predeceased by his father, William Garrett Levett; his mother, Mary Ann (O'Neill, Levett) Grupp; his stepfather, Charles Grupp; his sisters, Mary Lou Levett and Kathleen (Levett) and her husband Alex Kravec; and his brother, Robert Levett who is survived by his wife, Nancy.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Colleen A. Levett (Costello); his son, William Sean Levett, and his wife Janelle (Lejuez) of Lake George, NY; his sister, Patricia (Levett) and her husband Waldo Casarez of Clovis, NM; and his three grandchildren, Ryan, Wyatt, and Brinley, who were the light of his life. He is also survived by eight nieces and nephews, along with many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, June 13, at 11am at St. Mary's Church, Minoa. A Celebration of Life will be held following the service at Bill's home on Oneida Lake on June 13, 2026, his birthday, honoring the way he loved to live-surrounded by family, friends, laughter, and the lake he cherished.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to his caregivers, Missy and Lakisha, for their kindness, compassion, and dedication, as well as to all of the therapists who worked so hard to keep Bill strong.
You will be deeply missed, Grandpa Bill. You can finally rest now, Dad. We love you.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Canastota or Bridgeport Volunteer Fire Departments. The family thanks all of their members for the dedication and care they provided To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of William, please visit our floral store.
