William Boyd Lyerly Jr.

February 25, 1940 - July 23, 2022

William Boyd Lyerly Jr., 82, of Concord, passed away Saturday, July 23, 2022, at Morningside of Concord.

Boyd was born Feb. 25, 1940, in Concord. He was the son of William Boyd Lyerly Sr. and Myrtle Furr Lyerly.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 30, in Concord at Wilkinson Funeral Home Chapel. The family will be holding a visitation at the funeral home, after the service.

In addition to his parents, Boyd was preceded in death by his wife, Pennie Lyerly.

Boyd is survived by his son, Billy; wife, Hayley; grandson, Champ; and special friend, JoAnna Cupp.

Boyd was employed by Cannon Mills for 26 years and retired from the State of North Carolina â€" Stonewall Jackson Training School. Boyd's favorite activities were going out to eat, sitting around friends talking junk and exaggerating about stories from the past.

Boyd was a 1958 graduate of Concord High School. He was a lifelong supporter of Concord High School athletics and volunteered in numerous roles that supported the boosters club which he was a past president over. Boyd believed the most important things in life were faith, family, friends and Concord High School football. One of his biggest passions was Concord High School football where he served as the pre-game meal coordinator for almost 40 years. He took pride in developing relationships and enjoyed the comradery with each coach and every player.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Concord High School c/o CHS Athletic Booster Club, 481 Burrage Road, Concord, NC 28025.
