William Bill Manchester Obituary William "Bill" Manchester, 74, of Pittsburgh, passed away unexpectedly at his home on May 2, 2025.
Born in Pittsburgh, Bill was the beloved son of the late David and Eleanor Manchester. He graduated from Langley High School before earning his bachelor's degree from Robert Morris University. A lifelong resident of the area, Bill built a life rooted in faith, family, and friendship.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of nearly 50 years, Wilma Manchester. The two were looking forward to celebrating their golden anniversary this coming October - a testament to a joyful and enduring partnership built on deep love and mutual respect. Together they raised two children: Christopher (Cari) Manchester and Katelyn (Eric) Nicely, and Bill's greatest joy in life was being "Pappy" to his five treasured grandchildren - Samantha (18), Brooklyn (9), Liliana (8), Rosalia (6), and Barrett (4).
He is also survived by his siblings Robert Manchester (wife BJ) and Shirley Franz (late husband Clifford). He was preceded in death by his brother David Manchester and brother and sister-in-law Regis and Judith McGinty, as well as many nieces and nephews. Bill was a devoted husband, proud father, adoring grandfather, and dear friend to many.
Throughout his career, Bill worked in both sales and accounting, but he was best known for his lighthearted sense of humor. Whether it was his one-liners or stepping in as the impromptu "wedding singer", he had a special way of making people smile and laugh.
In his free time, he enjoyed golfing, sneaking in afternoon naps, and most of all, making memories with his grandchildren - whether cheering from the sidelines, singing with them in the living room, or simply sharing quiet moments of joy and laughter.
A man of steadfast faith, Bill was an active and devoted member of First United Church of Christ in Millvale. He gave his time and heart to the church through the choir, council, and numerous other ministries that meant so much to him. His spirit of service and kindness will long be remembered by his church family.
A memorial service to celebrate Bill's life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in his memory to First United Church of Christ in Millvale (425 North Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15209).
Though Bill has gone on to his eternal home, the love he gave, the life he led, and the legacy he leaves behind will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. As he would often say, "And now you know the rest of the story."
