William Manthey Obituary

Janesville, WI - William George Manthey, age 86 of Janesville, WI passed away at his home on June 25, 2025. He was born in Janesville on September 13, 1938, the son of John and Rose (Urbanowski) Manthey. He grew up on the family farm in Harmony township and attended Mount Zion Grade School. He graduated from Janesville High School in 1957. Following graduation, Bill was a U.S. Navy veteran. He went to ship reunions of the U.S.S. Greenwich Bay in Norfolk. Bill took a boat tour, his last time on the water, with other Greenwich Bay veterans.

Bill married Judith R "Judy" Murphy of Milton on September 29, 1962 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Milton. They had two sons, Peter and Paul. Bill was employed by Morgan Corporation for many years and at the time of his retirement he was serving as director of operations for the corporation.

Bill was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed following the Brewers, Packers, Bucks and UW sports teams. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling, as well as golfing with his wife, Judy and sons. He attended numerous P G A golf tournaments. Another favorite was spending time at the family cottage at Bingham's Point on Lake Koshkonong. He loved his trips to Laughlin NV; just relaxing and golfing with Judy and meeting up with friends and his two team parlays. Bill was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church.

He enjoyed his dogs, including the 1st family pet, Daisy the beagle and greyhounds: Angel, Emily, Fame, Penguin and Willie. Willie was special to him as his banking and gardening companion.

Bill was one of the original founders of the Rock AquaJays. He was a conservationist with John Murphy, Bob Farrington and Ray Reilley. They removed trees from the railways of Milton (not necessarily with permission, bless them all).

Bill Manthey is survived by his two sons; Peter Manthey and Paul Manthey; brothers and sisters, John "Jack" Manthey, Wayne (Bonnie) Manthey, Bruce (Cheri) Manthey, Kathleen Quarterman, Larry Manthey; in-laws, Sue (Bill) Scherwitz, Mary (Jim) Quade, Bob (Bonnie) Murphy; numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Manthey on February 18, 2017. His parents, John and Rose Manthey and his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Donald Quarterman, Greg Murphy, Nola Reilly, Ray Reilly, Donna Farrington, Bob Farrington, Jan Breunig and Anna Marie Murphy also predeceased him. As well as his in-laws, John & Marie Murphy.

The family would like to thank the SSM Health Pulmonary staff and Agace Hospice for their assistance.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Noon Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at ST. MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, Milton. Father David Timmerman will preside. Burial will follow in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery with military rites by Kienow-Hilt V.F.W. Post # 1621. Visitation will be at the CHURCH on Wednesday July 2nd from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
