William Martin Obituary

William Earl Martin, Jr.

February 3, 1941 - May 13, 2025

Kennewick, Washington - William Earl Martin Jr., known to most as Earl, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2025. Born on February 3, 1941, to Garnet and William Earl "Papo" Martin Sr., Earl lived a life full of love, dedication, and spirited competition.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Marty Martin; and his beloved wife, Jere Martin, after 42 years of marriage. He was also preceded in death by Glenda Magill Martin (his first wife, the mother of his children, and lifelong friend).

Earl is survived by his children: Darren Martin, Brenda Chilton (husband, Matt), and David Sparks (wife, Rosie); as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Earl devoted decades of his life to the bowling industry, both as a competitive bowler and as a manager. He was a highly accomplished bowler, achieving four perfect 300 games and once holding the world record for a five-game series with an incredible 1333. He managed all three bowling centers in the Tri-Cities (Cloverleaf, Vineyard, and Atomic Lanes) becoming a familiar and respected figure in the local bowling community.

Later in life, Earl and Jere discovered a shared passion for golf. Together, they traveled to Maui, Hawaii, 30 times, embracing their love for the game and the island. Along with Papo, they co-owned and operated the Kaddy Shak Restaurant at Sun Willows Golf Course.

Earl also found joy in his work as a courier for the Southland Corporation, a role he truly loved and carried out with pride until retirement.

Following the pandemic, he formed the "Coffee Clutch" at his family's restaurant, Magill's, where many a Wednesday morning, family and friends gathered to enjoy coffee, breakfast, and shared laughter.

Earl will be remembered for his generous heart, sense of humor, and unwavering dedication to family and friends.

The family wishes to thank Regency Canyon Lakes, Cherry Creek Adult Family Home, and Hospice at the Chaplaincy, who took such good care of Earl in his final days.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice at the Chaplaincy in Richland, in honor of William Earl Martin, Jr.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, May 20, at City View Cemetery in Pasco at 11:00 a.m.

I enjoyed playing golf with Earl for many years. On many days, it was Earl, Frieda, Sharon and Jerry. I had breakfast with him a few months ago; it was good to catch up. He will be missed

Fond memories back as far as the 1950s through high school. For the last decade during any visit to Pasco a meal at Macgills was always a treat, including looking at some of the pictures on the wall.

Earl loved a good conversation and I enjoyed every one we ever shared. Truly a kind gentle man.
