William Lawrence McCarty, III, 88, of Winston Salem, NC, formerly of Charleston, WV, passed away unexpectedly on November 20, 2025, at his residence. He was born in Kanawha County, WV, on August 11, 1937, to the late William Lawrence McCarty II and Elizabeth Wiseman McCarty. William, or Bill to everyone that knew him, served his country in the United States Army, while working for Gravely Tractor for 22 years and then for Stoneville Furniture for 19 years before he retired. There was no gentler a man you would ever know. He found peace in bird watching and gardening, but his greatest peace was found in his loving wife Dolores of 69 years and his family. He served the Lord faithfully as a member of Center Grove Baptist Church.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Dolores McCarty; daughters Terry Myers and Cheryl Pritchard (Ashley); grandchildren Sarah Aquino (Luis), Lindsay Pritchard, Alex Pritchard (and family), and Andrew Pritchard (and family); great granddaughter Emma Aquino; sister Noreda McKemy (Robert); best friends of 50 years, Troy and Frances King; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00pm, Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at Gardens of Memory Walkertown with Pastor Mitch Monroe officiating. The family will receive friends, Tuesday evening from 5:00pm ~ 7:00pm at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
