William McCrystal Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals - Toms River at St. Catherine Blvd. on Jul. 25, 2025.
William McCrystal entered eternal rest on July 17, 2025, at the age of 78, in his new residence of Manchester, New Jersey. Born December 6, 1946, to Harold McCrystal Sr. and Margaret (née Doherty), William was a lifelong resident of Jersey City before moving to South Amboy in 1995 with his devoted wife, Carol.

A true rosy-cheeked Irishman defined by strength, loyalty, and an unwavering work ethic, William spent 34 proud years as a tractor-trailer driver with Teamsters Local 641. After retiring from transportation, he continued his service to the public as a Weights and Measures Inspector for the City of Jersey City, a position he held with diligence and integrity for seven years.

Upon retirement, William fully immersed himself in the lives of his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed the holidays- especially Christmas- where he'd meticulously prepare and cook his specialty, Lasagna. To add to the Christmas spirit, he enjoyed baking a variety of cookies alongside his wife to be given out generously, playing classic games like shuffleboard and bocce, Monopoly, and continuing a family -and frankly competitive- card tradition, P-I-G.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Carol; his children, Lauren McCrystal Nestor and Ryan McCrystal; and his cherished grandchildren, Gabrielle and Adrianna Nestor. He is also survived by his sister, Margaret "Peggy" Spina and beloved nephew, Jeffrey McCrystal (Jessica) whom he'd rekindled with a couple years prior, and loved immensely. Also survived by Brother in law Tony, sisters in law Joann and Dee and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Richard and Harold "Junior" McCrystal; his son-in-law, Michael Nestor; and his brother-in-law, Vincent Spina, sister in law Ann Marie, brother in law Angelo, and niece Mary Jo.

A Memorial Gathering will be held 12pm to 2pm, August 7, 2025 with a Funeral Service to begin at 1pm at Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 145 St. Catherine Blvd., Toms River, NJ.

All who knew William are welcome to attend and celebrate his life.

William leaves behind a legacy of respect, courage and everlasting love. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
