William D. "Bill" McGuire
Reading Police Detective

Detective Sergeant William D. "Bill" McGuire, 86, of Mt. Penn, PA passed away Wednesday, November 19th, at Reading Hospital.

William was born in Reading, PA on July 20, 1939, a son of the late Elizabeth "Betty" (Briner) and John O. McGuire. He was the husband of the late Barbara Ann (O'Reilly) McGuire who predeceased him in 2011.

He was a member of St. Catharine of Siena RC Church Mt. Penn, PA 19606. He graduated from Central Catholic High School, Class of 1958 and later received an associate's degree from Penn State Berks Campus and continued taking Criminal Justice courses throughout his career.
A member of the Marine Corps League, he served in the U.S. Marines in the Vietnam Era. In 1968 he began a 38-year career in Law Enforcement with the Reading Police Department, serving as a Detective Sergeant. He continued his career for an additional 16 years with the Berks County Detective Bureau and the Berks County Narcotic Information Center (BCNIC).
William is survived by a son, John P. McGuire, of Reading, PA, a grandson, Alex McGuire, of Reading, PA, and his son-in-law Todd Ruffner of Mohnton, PA. He is also survived by his sister, E. Linda Varone, widow of Bryan Varone, of Sinking Spring, PA. He was predeceased by his daughter, Mary Beth (McGuire) Ruffner and his brother John "Jack" E. McGuire.

Services are private at the convenience of the family with casketed Mausoleum Encryptment at Gethsemane Cemetery.
