William P. McKay

1936 - 2026

William Paul McKay, 89, of North Huntingdon, went home to be with our Lord on Jan. 24, 2026. He was born on April 22, 1936, in Larimer. He was the son of the late John W. and Katherine E. (Purse) McKay. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, JoAnn (Phillips); his father and mother-in-law, Edgar N. and Ruth J. (Heskitt) Phillips; sister, Vivian K. (McKay) Shrump; niece, Tracey A. (Shrump) Briney; grandson, Richard Welsh; and great-grandson, Liam Ethan. He will be missed beyond measure by his loving children, Brian C., Alan C., and wife Judy, Lynn A., and husband Don Paz; 11 grandchildren, Chrystal, Louis, Daniel, Jeremy, Zach, Jordan, Eric, Amber, Emily, Elissa, and Daniel; and 17 great-grandchildren, with one more on the way! William, Bill to his friends, lived a quiet life, a bit of a homebody! He married his soulmate in 1956, JoAnn. Growing their family, "Son number 1" was born, followed by "Son number 2"! Their favorite daughter came along six years later. He graduated in 1954 and joined the Air Force shortly after. His love of planes continued as he flew control line model planes and also built several ultralights. He loved gardening and hunting most of all! His favorite pastime was going to the casinos with his lovely wife, JoAnn, and taking cruises. He had a group of guys he would have coffee with just to "shoot the bull." Slowly, the group became smaller and smaller. JoAnn's health began to decline, and he took such good care of her, making the best of things, and with his sense of humor, he would have us laughing until we cried! During this time, their kids rallied around them, helping care for them. JoAnn passed, and Bill was just lost without her. His health began declining, but through it all, he learned how special each of his children was and how much they loved him, and he loved them too! Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Feb. 6, 2026, at OTT FUNERAL HOME INC., 805 Pennsylvania Ave., Irwin, PA 15642. Celebration of Life will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026, in the funeral home, with Pastor Clarke Lauffer officiating. Interment will follow at Irwin Union Cemetery.
