William McMichen Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Davis-Struempf Funeral Home & Crematory on Aug. 6, 2025.
William Albert McMichen, age 84, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2025. Bill was born to Albert and Billie McMichen in Atlanta and raised in the Cobb County area, remaining a Cobb County resident for a majority of his life. Shortly after graduating from South Cobb High School; Bill married the love of his life, Helen Finch. Bill was a cherished, long-time member of Mt. Harmony Baptist Church and an active member of their choir. His career was largely spent in the computer programming and information technology field. Having a keen eye for what was to come in the computer boom, Bill became a programmer well before that field's popularity. An avid nature lover and outdoorsman, many of Bill's hobbies centered around his deep appreciation of the natural world. Whether he was hunting, camping, or spending time reenacting pioneer-era living, Bill made friends and formed lasting connections. Bill loved his brief stint at Outdoor Adventures, where he could talk about his passions. He also volunteered with the Cub Scouts Troop that met at Mt. Harmony Baptist Church. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Helen McMichen; daughters, Leslie Murray (Sean) of Marietta, Laura Yancey (Stephen) of Douglasville, and Leanne Maxwell (Charles) of Eastman; grandchildren, Thomas Murray, Sarah Yancey, James Yancey, and John Yancey; and many beloved extended family and friends. A funeral service honoring Bill's life will be held Saturday, August 9th, 11:00 AM at Davis-Struempf Chapel with Dr. A.T. Stewart officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Interment will follow the service at Mt. Harmony Memorial Gardens.
