William Meconi Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by R.W. Walker Funeral Home and Cremation Service - Plattsburgh on Dec. 9, 2025.
William Thomas "Bill" Meconi passed away on Saturday, December 6, 2025 at the home of his daughter, Jillian Duda, surrounded by love. He was born on October 2, 1948 in Plattsburgh, New York, son of Louis Peter Meconi and Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Jennings Meconi. He graduated from Au Sable Forks High School and later attended Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Bill graduated with his degree in Political Science and was drafted by the US Army in 1969. He was lucky to survive the harrowing experience and was awarded a Bronze Star for his service. After surviving Vietnam, Bill went on to pursue his one major life's ambition: to become an attorney. He attended the Mitchell Hamline School of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota. He came back to New York with a law degree and the future mother of his children, Barbara Davis.

After passing the bar, Bill "hung his shingle" with his father, Louis Meconi. Practicing law with his father in the North Country was Bill's dream, and he went on to practice law for the next forty years. He was always happy to accept pro bono work and was a public defender of the Unified Court System.

Not only was Bill an accomplished attorney, but he was also involved in the community through the Kiwanis Club, Chamber of Commerce, the United Way, and the Hospice of the North Country. His favorite thing to do was coach youth sports. He coached youth soccer in Plattsburgh, was an assistant soccer coach for Seton Catholic, and taught skiing at Whiteface Mountain in Lake Placid.

Bill also was an avid reader, loved travel and music, and was a fantastic dancer. It's not possible to list all the sports that Bill excelled at, but his favorite way to spend a summer weekend was at Bluff Point with his children or his golf crew. Winter weekends were for Whiteface Mountain.

Dad's larger-than-life personality, boundless energy, sense of humor, his big laugh and beautiful smile are so very missed by his friends and family. He is survived by his daughter Lisa Meconi and her husband, Jeremiah Murray and grandson Cormac Murray, his daughter Jillian Duda and her husband Jonathan Duda, and grandson Connor Duda, son John Meconi and his wife Regina Meconi, stepdaughter Savanna-Lin Frederick, stepson Tyler Boadway and stepson Hunter Boadway, sister Susan Pulitzer and her partner Barry Waling, brother Robert Meconi and his wife Victoria Meconi, many nieces and nephews, and beloved friend Renée Levesque.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the Plattsburgh Veteran's Association (VA) Clinic, Hospice of the North Country, and Tiffany Ebersole for the care they helped to provide to Dad during his battle with vascular dementia. A special thanks to Dad's deeply loyal Labradoodle pal Duke for all of the snuggles and kisses.

Visitation will be held Thursday, December 18, 2025 from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, December 19th at 10:30am

at St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh.

Donations in Bill's honor may be made to the Plattsburgh VA Clinic.
