CDR William F. Meininger USCG (Ret.), age 64, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 02, 2009.

He was the adoring and devoted husband of Carolyn Ann (Hudak). Loving father to Jennifer (Zoe) Meininger, of Santa Monica, Calif., Wm. Scott Meininger, of Corvallis, Ore., Kristen Bywater (Rich), of Charlotte, N.C. and Douglas Grimes (Martha) of Grand Rapids, Mich.; grandfather to Maddox Bywater, Michael and Kaytie Grimes. He is also survived by two sisters, Mary Beth Meininger, of Harper Woods, Mich. and Frances A. Scafario (Joseph) of Ocean City, N.J., along with nephews Adam and Andrew Scafario.

Bill spent his military career serving both in the N. Atlantic and S. Pacific on ships and small boats. He graduated from Officer Candidate School and got his wings in 1971. He then served as a Search and Rescue pilot across the county. He retired after 32 years of service in 1993 and went on to become a Home Inspector. In his spare time he embarked on a third career with his love of writing, authoring two books, "A Passage Out of Sequence" and "Recollections of 32 Years in the U.S. Coast Guard and Other Ramblings" Bill loved nothing more than spending time with his family, espec-ially his new grandson, Maddox.

He was hands down the best husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and friend anyone could ask for. We will all miss his humorous story telling and undeniable wit. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him, people and animals alike. He rocked!!!

A visitation will be held on Sat., Feb. 7 at 10 a.m. at Mountcastle Funeral Home at 4143 Dale Blvd., Dale City, VA 22193, 703-680-1234 with the service to follow at 11:30 a.m. Following the service there will also be a Celebration of Bill's life at the Montclair Country Club at 1 p.m. 10500 Edgewood Dr. Montclair, Va. 22025, 703-670-4870. Arrangements by Mountcastle Funeral Home.

I was shocked and greatly saddened to hear of this world's loss of our friend, Bill. He will always live on in our hearts and memories. He always had special meaning to me and my family. His family has suffered a great loss. My heart and prayers are with them. God must have a special job he needs done and only Bill could do it.

My wife and I were sad to learn of Bill's passing. It's been a while since I last saw and talked with Bill in one of the many car pool's to CGHQ. Please accept our sympathy.

Although we have never met, I felt like I knew Bill because of things Tom told me. I know he was a truly valued friend and neighbor. My thoughts and prayers are certainly with you.

After reading the beautiful words written by Bill's Family i regret that i didn't have the opportunity to appreciate and know this man as more than "Our Home Inspector". He was one of the best in his field and will be sorely missed by his Friends, Family and the Real Estate Profession. I am sure that God must have a Special Place for a man that loved His World so much and showed it by being a great father, a great husband and a caretaker of God's helpless creatures. We'll All Miss You.

So sad to read this-I had only been in the company of Bill twice-once at Francie's 50th birthday and again with he and his family at Deep Creek MD. I can honestly say that they were such loving and full of life people. I know that Francie just adored him. I am a friend of Francie's - with every black cloud there is a silver lining. It is one of our worst fears to lose a loved one. May your faith in God and memories comfort you in your loss.
