Newcomer Cremations, Funerals, & Receptions - Centerville ChapelWilliam L. Melvin, "Bill" a distinguished veteran and accomplished professional, passed away peacefully at his home on March 14, 2026. Born on May 14, 1938, in Dayton, Ohio, William’s life was marked by dedicated service, a steadfast work ethic, and enduring personal relationships.
Bill graduated from Roosevelt High School, where he began shaping the values that would guide his life. He went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean Era, demonstrating a deep commitment to duty and country. Following his military service, Bill embarked on a successful career in the paper industry, ultimately retiring after holding the position of Vice President of Marketing. His colleagues and acquaintances knew him as a perfectionist, someone who pursued excellence with unwavering determination.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Bill cherished the simple joys of life. He found great pleasure in fishing and hunting, enjoying the tranquility and challenge these pastimes offered. A devoted member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), he often spent time among fellow veterans, building friendships and sharing in camaraderie.
Bill’s family was central to his life. He is survived by his brother, Tom Melvin; his great nieces and great nephews, Kristen (Ryan) Elliott and Adam (Megan) Vo; and his great-great nieces, Lily Sharpe and Rayna Vo. He also leaves behind his lifelong friend, Carol McNabb, and her family, who shared in many years of meaningful companionship and support.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Paul and Rose Melvin; sister-in-law, Lois Melvin; niece, Lorri Vo; and nephew, Paul Melvin. Their memory remains an integral part of the legacy Bill leaves behind.
Bill’s life was one of dedication — to family, friends, country, and his craft. He will be remembered for his meticulous nature, warm spirit, and the quiet strength he exhibited throughout his years. His presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
