I was a gunner on the riverboats when the Lt. was there. He was liked by all, can´t say that to some of the officers but Lt. Messmer was one of a kind. Be at piece.

At Norfolk Academy in 1957, "The Bat" (Bill's nickname) made me, as a newcomer to the school, immediately welcome. Over the next three years we became fast friends. As a cadet at West Point I visited Bill at Annapolis over exchange weekend. We were both Viet Nam vets and kept in occasional touch until the late '80s. He is someone I will always remember as gifted, and one of the kindest guys I have ever met .

William Messmer was my patient at Alliance Health at Braintree when he transferred to my unit. I, Lena, was his nurse. William and I engaged in countless conversations and laughs. We talked about everything from his naval career, investing in which he taught me about, family and anything we could find to talk about. He confided in me and I confided in him. He was such a caring, loving and understanding person with a Beautiful soul if you ever had the chance to meet and know him. He will be missed tremendously from my Heart and Soul.
