William Miller Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Good Shepherd Mortuary Inc on Mar. 18, 2026.
William Blaine Miller Jr., known to all who loved him as Bill, passed away on January 18,

2026, in Port Saint Lucie, Florida, after a courageous battle with heart failure. He was 61

years old. Born on December 30, 1964, in Charleston, West Virginia, Bill lived a life defined

by generosity, athleticism, and an unwavering devotion to those he cared about.

From an early age, Bill was drawn to the water. He was an avid swimmer who worked as a

lifeguard during his high school and college years, often teaching swim lessons to children

in the community. A talented athlete, he also enjoyed playing tennis competitively through

college. Bill went on to attend West Virginia University, where he graduated from the

School of Engineering, beginning a career that would eventually take him to Florida. There,

he built a distinguished professional life with Florida Power and Light, serving as a Senior

Energy Trader and manager of Florida City Gas.

Bill would tell you that his proudest moment was the day his son, Garrett William Miller,

was born. He poured himself into fatherhood, spending countless hours golfing, hunting,

and fishing with Garrett. He was immensely proud of Garrett's talent in golf and deeply

supportive of his son's decision to begin his career with PGA National. Bill also found joy in

reconnecting with his classmate from first grade at Dunbar Elementary, Katie Poffenbarger,

and convinced her to move to Florida to be his wife.

Bill was always generous and giving of his time. His love of dogs led him to help provide

shelter for animals displaced during Hurricane Katrina. He was a devoted supporter of The

Boys and Girls Club throughout Garrett's childhood and remained a lifelong advocate for

the organization. He was also a proud lifetime member of the West Virginia University

Alumni Association.

Bill is survived by his loving wife, Kathryn Poffenbarger Miller; his son, Garrett William

Miller; his father, William Blaine Miller Sr.; his brother, Andrew Miller, and his father in law,

John T Poffenbarger. He is also survived by Katie's children David, Susan, John and Mary

Kate as well as grandchildren Olivia, Caroline, Henry, Virginia and Harry. He was preceded

in death by his loving mother, Constance E. Miller and mother in law, Susan G.

Poffenbarger. He is missed by his dogs Sunny, Sadie and Georgia who continue to look for

him every day.

Garrett and Katie would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Todd and Carol Spencer and their

son Martin, who became family to Bill. They provided friendship and unwavering support as

they raised their sons to be brothers.

May Bill rest peacefully in the arms of the Lord he loved. A memorial service will be held at

1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Good Shepherd Mortuary in South Charleston,

with Rev. Dr. Timothy L. Bias officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the

service at the funeral home.

Good Shepherd Mortuary 335 Fifth Avenue, South Charleston, WV 25303 has been entrusted with the arrangements.
