Remembering Bill Moore

William "Bill" Hubert Moore II passed away on February 21, 2026, with his wife Becky and daughters by his side.

Bill was born on November 10, 1949 in Charleston, West Virginia, to William "Lefty" Hubert Moore and Doris Helen Moore.

He spent his childhood on Stricker Road in Charleston with his parents and big sister Marilee. Billy, as he was called by his family, loved playing outside with the neighborhood kids, catching snakes in the woods and critter hunting in the creeks, and eating his mom's homegrown tomatoes. He graduated from George Washington High School in 1967. In 1976, he moved across the country to San Francisco to experience the excitement of the area at that time. He worked for many years as a draftsman for Sverdrup and Parcel (later Jacobs) and then moved to Washington in 2006 to be with Becky and enjoy country living.

Bill was such a fun, down to earth guy and had a great sense of humor. He was very handy and had a lot of common sense about how to fix a house. He was not afraid to speak about his Progressive political stance. He was deeply loving towards his family and all animals, big and small. Bill was also a model train enthusiast.

His adventurous side led him to kayaking and riding motorcycles with Becky, scuba diving with brother-in-law Ed, and lots of tattoos. He loved cooking, Fireball, and Marlboro Reds.

Although he struggled with his health at the end of his life, he never gave up and wanted to push through cancer treatment as long as he could. He was so brave and tough. He did not let cancer defeat him and kept a positive attitude until the very end.

He is survived by his loving wife Becky Harris, who cared for him so tenderly during his illness; his daughters with first wife Elaine: "first born" Janis (Scott) and their two children Miles and Caroline, and his youngest daughter Marion (Andrew); his sister Marilee and her husband Ed, and their four children Tabitha, Seth, Joanna, and William; and cousins and relatives in West Virginia. He is also fondly remembered by his first wife Elaine and her partner Marc.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local animal shelter. Bill will be very much missed by his family, friends, and all of his dogs, birds and chickens.
