William Murray Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by James A. Dyal Funeral Home on Jan. 30, 2026.
William Asbury "Billy" Murray, Sr., a Summerville, SC native passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 29, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Billy was born to the late John A. Murray and Gladys Knight Murray on February 19,1952.

Billy was happily married for 48 years to the love of his life, Julie Murray. Outgoing and kind, Billy never met a stranger or animal that he did not befriend. He was deeply adored and loved by all who crossed his path. Billy spent a lifetime devoted to the study of the Bible. As a faithful steward of the Word, a strong conviction in Jesus guided him throughout his days. Billy took great pride in his work, owning Murray Logging Company and later spending his retirement years enjoying his employment at Medway Plantation. He was passionate about his family, nature, and caring for animals.

He is survived by his loving wife, Julie Murray; his children: Hattie Coryell (Brian), William A. Murray, Jr. (Chelsea), and Micah Murray (Mary Dove); his grandchildren: Laynee (Nathan), Gracie, Josh, Jack, Tori, Brian Jr., and Tabitha; his great grandchildren: Dottie, Ava, River, Raylie, Brandlee, and Rhett; his siblings: Allen Murray (Gloria), Ann Murray, and Emily Todd (Phil); as well as numerous beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026, at 3:00pm at White Church Cemetery Summerville, 10548 Dorchester Road, Summerville, SC 29485.

Julie, I am deeply sorry to hear of Billy's passing. I have not seen you all in a few years, but I have extremely fond memories of being able to know you both during my working years. My prayers for the whole family for healing of the hearts. I lost my son this past September, so I know it is painful for you.
