William "Morris" Nimmons Augusta, GA - William "Morris" Nimmons was born July 8, 1935 in Augusta, Georgia to Charlie Hubert Nimmons, Sr, and Mamie Dill Nimmons. He died January 12, 2021 at University Hospital, Augusta, Georgia. Morris attended the Academy of Richmond County and was a Marine Reservist. While in the United States Army from 1958 until 1960, he was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas and Furth, Germany. Morris married the one love of his life, Pauletta Buckner, on March 30, 1957. After 36 years of employment, Morris retired from Babcock-Wilcox/Thermal Ceramics, Augusta, Georgia, as a machinist-mechanic. He was a Freemason, Emeritus, Lodge #412 F.& A.M. Hephzibah, Georgia. After a well-earned retirement, Morris and Pauletta spent over 20 years travelling the country with their camper and camping club, Happy Campers. He was deeply and dearly loved by a very large family including his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who simply and tenderly referred to him as "Gigi". Morris regularly attended Pineview Baptist Church. He believed strongly in God and in America. Morris was predeceased in life by his eldest son, William Steven Nimmons (Deborah Garland Nimmons) (2005) and his eldest brother, Charlie Hubert Nimmons, Jr. (2008). He is survived by his wife of almost 64 years: Pauletta Buckner Nimmons; daughter: Paula Shawn Tolbert (Bill) Evans, GA; son: Ken Morris Nimmons, Augusta, GA; daughter-in-law: Deborah Garland Nimmons, Evans, GA; 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; brothers: Melvis Nimmons (Jeannette) Edgefield, SC and Jack Nimmons (Betty) Augusta, GA and sister: Helen Redd (Bobby) Dearing, GA and brother-in-law: David Warren Buckner. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605. A funeral service will be held Saturday, January 16, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. Bill Tolbert officiating. Interment will follow in Westover Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Saturday, one hour prior to the service (1:00 p.m.) at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors, 214 Davis Rd., Augusta, GA 30907 (706) 364-8484.
