William J. Nodine of Lanoka Harbor, NJ, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2025, at the age of 89, after a lengthy illness. He was surrounded by his devoted wife Julia, his children, and grandchildren, who remained by his side throughout his courageous battle. Known to many as Bill, Dad, Grandpa, Uncle Billy, Captain Bill, and Coach Nodine, he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Bill spent his early years growing up in Jersey City, where he met the love of his life, Julia ("Judy"). Inseparable since grade school, Bill and Judy married, moved "out of the City and down to the Shore," and together raised their five children: Susan (Joseph) Bellettiere, Lynn (Darren) MacGillivray, Patricia (Scott) Eno, Craig (Carla) Nodine, and the late William Jr. Bill was also predeceased by his parents, Ann and Robert Nodine of Jersey City, and his brother Robert.
He proudly served his country aboard the submarine USS Tench (SS-417). Following his military service, Bill built a successful career as a National Service Manager for Thermice/Publicker Industries, traveling extensively across the country before retiring at the age of 60. He enthusiastically encouraged friends and colleagues to "retire as early as possible" and make the most of life.
In retirement, Bill embraced his passions-golfing, traveling, boating, tinkering, and fixing whatever needed fixing-but nothing brought him more joy than his family. He was a devoted and proud grandfather to Nicole, Paul, Erin, Darren, Joseph, Matthew, Craig, Carlee, and Scottie, and an even prouder great-grandfather to Tessa, Nicholas, Wesley, Copeland, and Sutton. Grandpa Bill was a constant presence at every school event, graduation (from pre-K through college), practice, game, dance recital, or any other occasion where he was needed. Whether it was after-school pickups, emergency absences, or a quick trip to the nurse, Grandpa Bill handled it all with love, humor, and ease.
Together with Grandma Judy-his partner in everything-he created countless memories for his grandchildren. They spent endless hours at their home and on Barnegat Bay aboard Grandpa's boat, as well as traveling up and down the East Coast to enjoy new adventures. Bill was an active participant in his family's lives and a creator of hundreds of cherished moments they will hold close forever.
Bill will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to family, his generosity, and his zest for life. Although his memories faded in his later years, he never forgot that he was surrounded by love. His family takes comfort in knowing that his legacy of care, laughter, and togetherness will live on.
Services will be private.
