Mrs. Colleen Johnson Gibson, 90, died Thursday morning (November 27, 2014) at the Baptist Village Retirement Communities following a brief illness. She was born in Dixie Union, GA and had lived most of her life in Waycross. She graduated from Wacona High School where she was a standout basketball player. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she helped start the Trinity Prayer Line. She was also an active member of the Lay Witness Mission, the Keenagers, and the United Methodist Women where she was the organization's first President. Mrs. Gibson was a very active Cub Scouts leader and the author of her own book, "And That's Not All". She was president of the Rural Letter Carriers Women's Auxiliary. She is the daughter of the late Aaron J. and Effie Johnson. She is the wife of the late John D. Gibson, Jr. She is survived by three children, Linda Gibson Hatcher (husband Al) of Northport, AL, John D. Gibson III (wife Carolyn) of Waycross, and Charles E. Gibson (wife Mary Helen) of Waycross; nine grandchildren, Brian Hatcher (wife Sharon), Ashley Hubka (husband Tony), Amanda Swenson (husband Todd), Chris Gibson (wife Melanie), Thomas Gibson, Matt Gibson (wife Nicole) , Will Gibson (wife Meagan), Jonathan Hatcher, and Ben Gibson (wife April); 12 great grandchildren, Caleb Hatcher, Jared Hatcher, Emily Warner, Noah Swenson, Lauren Swenson, Nate Gibson, Drew Gibson, Reese Gibson, Hannah Kate Gibson, Jonah Gibson, Caroline Gibson, and Andrew Gibson. A funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday (November 29, 2014) at Trinity United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends Saturday at the church from 2 until 3 o'clock. Members of the John Wesley Sunday School Class and Trinity United Methodist Women are asked to meet Saturday at the church by 2:40 p.m. to serve as honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 1005 Church St., Waycross, GA 31501.
