William David Patterson, 79, of Denton, Tx, passed from this earthly life to his eternal home in Heaven on December 12, 2025. David was born on January 28, 1946, in Lewisville, Tx, to Jimmy and Oneita Patterson.
David started his own septic tank manufacturing business and had an outstanding reputation as being a "top notch" backhoe operator. After retiring from the construction business, David was employed at James Wood Auto Park as a driver for the past 21 years.
David proudly served his country in the United States Army as Combat Engineer, earning the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device, and Good Conduct Medal. Burial with military honors will be presented at the Sanger Cemetery after the service.
David married Berniece Newton on February 15, 1969. David and Berniece were not only the love of each other's lives but were best friends. David was so supportive of all of Berniece 's ideas, no matter how creative or unusual. When she would present an idea, David would say, "Draw me a blueprint, and I will build it.". They were a team. David had an extraordinary talent with a hammer, a box of nails, and some wood, but it didn't stop there. David also enjoyed restoring classic cars and even creating fiberglass fenders for his 1938 Pontiac.
David restored a 1946 Willys Jeep for a friend, and he responded, "As you know David was a very special and inspiring person in my life. He helped me make all kinds of crazy and wonderful things that I would have never attempted without his support and knowledge. The world has lost a great and amazing man."
Quoting another friend, "David was one of a kind, belly laughing, joking around, telling life changing stories and out working me on every project we did together. I bet there's a brand new pickup waiting on you with tons of projects. Whatever the deal might be for you in Heaven, we know you'll do a bang up job!"
David is survived by his wife of 56 years, Berniece Patterson, of Denton, Tx, his sisters, Lucille Harris, Sue Walters, Margie Hamm and numerous very special nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, his sisters, Carol Debault, Linda Billings and brother, Richard Patterson.
Officiating the service will be David's nephew, who was named after his Uncle David, Pastor David Harris of Solid Rock Baptist Church in East Texas. Serving as pallbearers will be nephews: James Patterson, Keith Ritter, Rudy Fernandez, Jonathan Newton, Jeff Harris and Scott Matney.
David trusted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and was a member of First Baptist Church of Denton. He has left us with many cherished memories. David's kind, gentle, loving, and supportive spirit will forever be greatly missed.
