William T. Price, Sr. 91, of Galesburg, Illinois died on Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
Bill was born on January 16, 1931 in Galesburg, the son of William and Jessie (Cawkins) Price. He graduated from Galesburg High School and then served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Bill went on to work for C.B. & Q and later, Burlington Northern for over 40 years.
Bill married Vernita Haywood on December 4, 1954 in Alexis, Illinois. She preceded him in death on December 6, 1996. He is survived by his son, William Price, Jr. and his daughter, Lorri Price, both of Galesburg; grandchildren, Carrie (Seth) Purtell and James (Vanessa) Johnston; and great-grandchildren, Zoie Purtell and Maddox Johnston. Bill is also survived by his sister-in-law, Kathy Price of Galesburg, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. His brother, Jerry Price, preceded him in death.
Bill rode motorcycles until he was well into his 80's. He loved classic country music, especially Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton. He enjoyed NASCAR, car shows, the Stearman Fly-In, classic car magazines, and attending his grandchildren's events.
Visitation will be Friday, October 21, 2022 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Watson Thomas Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 11:30 am at Memorial Park Cemetery, Galesburg. The family requests everyone wear casual attire. Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation or American Diabetes Association.
