William Reid Obituary
Mr. Reid graduated from Lucedale High School in 1961. He attended Mississippi State and then transferred to USM; He graduated with a BS in Secondary Education. He was employed by George County School System in January of 1965 as a teacher and coach. He then received a Master's in Education Administration from William Carey. He served as superintendent of Education in George County School District from January 1980-1983. He also served as the director of Singing River Education Headstart and Principal of Rocky Creek Elementary until retirement. He served on the library board for Jackson-George Regional Library. He retired with 28 years as an educator in the George County School System and 17 years as the Singing River Education Headstart Director.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Havard Reid; son, Lance Claude (Sherri) Reid; grandchildren, Christopher Reid (Carlie) Marler, Carlton (Kimberly) Reid, Blake (Bailey) Reid; great grandchildren, Callie Marler, Bennett Reid, Olivia Grace Reid.
Predeceased by his son, William David Reid; parents, Clinton and Oma Reid Sr.
The funeral will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 6, 2025 at Sigler Funeral Home, 4248 Main St., Lucedale, MS. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Saturday, December 6, 2025 from 9:00-11:00am at Sigler Funeral Home, 4248 Main St., Lucedale, MS.
The Reid family would like to thank all the dear friends at Gentiva who helped the family through this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital www.stjude.org/donate 1-800-805-5856.

Coach Reid was an important part of life beginning in eighth grade and continuing through high school and we maintained contact for many years afterward. His impact on the young people with whom he worked will be remembered, as will our fishing and hunting trips. Rest in Peace Coach. With respect, You will be remembered!
