William "Bill" Scattergood passed away on December 29, 2022 at the age of 76. Bill
was born to William Richard Scattergood, Sr., and Emma Mary Himmelein on February 25,
1946, in
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Bill was an avid baseball player, playing in college, and even being recruited to the major
leagues after graduating from Hale High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Following an injury to his
pitching arm, Bill enlisted in the United States Army where he went on to serve 27 years in the
Army Reserves. In 1968 Bill met the love of his life, Linda Marie Clark and they were married
on May 28, 1968 at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Tulsa, OK. Together, they had four children:
Mike, Laura, David and Tony. Bill supported his family by working as a fraud investigator for
the oil and gas industry at Sun Oil Company in Tulsa, OK.
Bill's love of baseball made him a great baseball coach to his children, and he spent
many years coaching Tulsa youth in various sports. Bill enjoyed camping and spending time
with his family. During his retirement, he enjoyed playing slot machines at various local casinos
in Tulsa. Bill was known for his dry sense of humor and the ability to make everyone laugh.
Bill will be sincerely missed by those who knew and loved him.
Bill is survived by his wife, Linda Clark Scattergood of Tulsa, Oklahoma; his son, Mike
Scattergood and his wife, Renee, of
Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; his daughter, Laura Scattergood
Porting and her husband, Mark Porting, of
Mannford, Oklahoma; his son, David Scattergood and
his partner, Tabatha Mullins, of
Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; and his son, Robert "Tony"
Scattergood and his partner, the Honorable Blake Adams, of
Naples, Florida. Bill is also
survived by his grandchildren: Jessica Creason, Blake Smith, Nicole Smith, Aidan Scattergood,
and Aubrey Scattergood; his great-grandchildren: Avery Whittiker and Lincoln Smith; and his
sister, Carol Conway; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family and
friends. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William and Emma Scattergood.
