William Francis Scott III, age 85, of Sebastian Florida, recently relocated to Wallingford Connecticut to spend time with family, passed peacefully on January 10, 2026.
Bill and Henny were happily married for 60 years and made it a mission to travel to every state in the United States, he succeeded in this mission whereas Henny has a few more states to go. He loved to camp and fish and would often be found with a rod in his car stopping off at a beach to try and bring something home for dinner. He never left home without his coffee cup, his Navy hat or his fishing rod and radio. Bill was also an avid gardener who loved growing his own vegetables. His grandchildren have many fond memories of vacations to Florida and camping trips to Burlingame (Rhode Island) where he could be found for most of the summer. If not fishing he would always be found at his workbench tinkering with something trying to get it back in working order again, most times succeeding.
Bill was born in Hamden, CT, and raised alongside his sister Beverly (deceased) and brothers Richie and Red by Frank and Gertrude Dering. He served proudly in the US Navy as a submariner on the USS Remora. He was the owner and operator of William Scott Landscaping until his retirement. In addition to his wife, he is also survived by his daughter Kirsten, his grandchildren Eric and Michael and his great-granddaughters Charli and Billie.
A Graveside Service, with military honors, will be held on January 15th at 1 p.m. in Centerville Cemetery, Hamden. There will be no hours for visitation. Wallingford Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his honor, to the Newington Humane society.
