William "Bill" Ernst Seeliger, 84, of Rapid City South Dakota passed away on Monday December 25, 2023 after a brief residence at the Arrowhead Rehab Faciality in Rapid City. Bill was born on March 18, 1939, son of Reverand William and Ruth (Lorenz) Seeliger, in Mattoon Wisconsin.
The family left Mattoon WI to move to Alma Center Wisconsin where Reverand Seeliger served as the Pastor at Grace Lutheran Church. The family moved to Kansas and Illinois with Bill graduating from high school in Illinois in 1953. He joined the Air Force and after 4 years of military service he was discharged and began a career with Rockwell International in California. He was very proud to have worked extensively on the B1 Bomber project.
Bill had a passion for airplanes attending the annual EAA Show in Oshkosh WI several times. He also was a skilled golfer, enjoyed restoring old cars, especially his 1934 Plymouth which won several awards, and was always a loyal Green Bay Packers fan.
His work on Rockwell's B1 Bomber took him to Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota. Upon his retirement he enjoyed summers in
Rapid City, South Dakota and wintering in warm Yuma, Arizona.
He was preceded in death by parents Pastor William and Ruth Seeliger, sister Ruth and brother-in-law Vernon Jacobson.
He is survived by niece; Kristi (Mike) Hanson (Alma Center WI), nephew; Mark Jacobson ( Independence KY), great nieces; Nicole (Luke) Thompson and Lindsey (Nick) Bradley as well as good friends; Gene and Carla Jobgen and family. The family is very grateful to Gene and his family for all they did for Bill. We should all be so lucky to have such dedicated, faithful friends.
Interment with military honors will be in the East Lawn Cemetery in Alma Center, WI in 2024.
