William P. "Pat" Settles, 78, of Shelbyville, passed away Sunday, May 21, 2023, at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.
He was born Oct. 5, 1944, in Greenfield, the son of William Owen and Marion Gertrude (Fisher) Settles. On Feb. 13, 1968, he married his wife of 55 years, Glenda Majors, and she survives.
In addition to Glenda, Pat is survived by his daughters, Mindy Settles Edwards and husband, T.J., of St. Paul, Lisa Michelle Settles of Shelbyville, and Brittany Clemons and husband, Harlan, of Waldron; son, Joshua Owen Settles and wife, Brandy, of Shelbyville; brother, Buddy Settles of Shelbyville; sisters, Mary Jo Yeley, of Indianapolis, and Betty Jean Kincaid and husband, Denny, of Shelbyville; sisters-in-law, Carol Settles and Wanda Settles; grandchildren, Philip Settles, Kylee Edwards, Kaydee Jo Kapfhammer and Cole Clemons; close friends, Red and Janie Baxter; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pat was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Michael Settles and Steve Settles; and brother-in-law, Steve Yeley.
In 1962, he graduated from Triton Central High School
Pat was formerly a truck driver, farrier and horse trainer.
He was a member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association and former member of the Moose Lodge.
Pat had a passion for horses, he enjoyed being a farrier, roper and trainer.
He could build anything out of horse shoes.
Pat was a great storyteller. He enjoyed sharing his stories with friends and family.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, May 27, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Saturday, at the funeral home. Interment will be at Fairland Cemetery in Fairland.
