Mr. William D. Sharp, 92, of Mill Creek, Indiana, died Monday March 1, 2010 at Hamilton Communities, Inc. in New Carlisle, IN. He was born January 22, 1918 in Mill Creek, Indiana, the son of James Sharp and Ethel May (Warren) Sharp. William worked as a custodian for LaPorte Community Schools, retiring in 1984 and was a farmer for forty-plus years. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the former member of the Mill Creek Lion's Club. William enjoyed reading, food and liked to travel. On June 4, 1938 in LaPorte, IN., he married Josephine Spence, who preceded him in death on November 27, 1984. On September 14, 1991, in LaPorte, IN, he married Helen Mroz, who survives. He is survived by his four sons, Thomas (Carole) Sharp of Mill Creek, IN, Richard (Susanne) Sharp of La Porte, IN, Larry (Caroll) Sharp of Gary, IN, Robert (Marianne) Sharp of La Porte, IN; three daughters, Mary Jo (Robert) Dappen of Grandville, IL, Marcia Roberts of La Porte, IN, Gloria Sharp of South Bend, IN; seventeen grandchildren, thirty-one great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren. William was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Josephine Spence, sisters, Bess Alice, Virginia, Bonnie, brother, James Sharp. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind. where the family will receive friends Wednesday, March 3, 2010 from 3:00 pm - 8:00 pm & Thursday, March 4, 2010 from 9:00 am - 9:45 am. A Rosary service will be held at 6:00 pm, Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at the Haverstock Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Thursday, March 4, 2010 at 10:00 am with Father David Kime, officiating. Interment will follow at the Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph Catholic Church God-Parent Program or American Cancer Society 601 West Edison Road Mishawaka, IN 46545.
