William Joseph Sluck

William J. Sluck, 87, of Arendtsville, died Jan. 21, 2025. He was born in Nesquehoning to Wash Sluck and Mary (Mitzen) Sluck.

William is survived by three daughters, Teresa "Betsy" Orsini of Canton, NC; Marya Djalal and her husband, Franck, of Arendtsville, and Anne Becker and her husband, Andrew, of Graham, NC; three grandchildren, Jesse Finafrock, Reza Alexander Djalal and Sarah Tresselt; three great-grandchildren, Harper, Genevieve and Marlowe; two brothers, Robert Sluck of Jim Thorpe and Ronald Sluck; and one sister, Mary Lou Bacon.

He is predeceased by his wife, Linda Lee Shavender Sluck; and brother, John "Jackie" Sluck.

William graduated from East Stroudsburg University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1959 and received a master's degree in 1966 from George Washington University, where he also completed doctoral studies. He worked for the US Capitol Police in Washington, DC, from 1961-63, when he was assigned to the Office of the Vice President, Lyndon Johnson. From 1963-65, he served in the US Army as a legal clerk in the Office of Staff Judge Advocate, Ft. Belvoir, Va., before his honorable discharge.

He worked for the Federal Communications Commission from 1970 until retiring in 1996 with 35 years of service.

In 2019, William was inducted into the Carbon County Hall of Fame for his athletic accomplishments including placing first at the District 11 titles in the mile run in 1954-55 and representing the district in the 1954 PIAA State Cross Country Meet held at Pennsylvania State University.

Service: A memorial service was held at St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church in Nesquehoning. Interment with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 17 at Mt. St. Mary's Cemetery in Emmitsburg, Maryland.
