William Soule Obituary

Published by Legacy on Jan. 21, 2026.
William D. Soule, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, peacefully passed away on January 18, 2026, at the age of 89 at his residence in LaBelle, Florida. Born on August 1, 1936, in Weymouth, Massachusetts, Bill, as he was affectionately known, lived a life rich in service, love, and adventure.

Bill was the cherished son of Lawrence and Marion (Delano) Soule. He was a proud veteran who dedicated 28 years of his life to the United States Coast Guard, ultimately rising to the rank of Chief Petty Officer. His commitment to service extended beyond his military career; he also served as a Bourne Police officer for 15 years, earning the affectionate nickname "Gentle Giant" for his kind and approachable demeanor while working as a bouncer at the Hotel Bar on Main Street in Buzzards Bay. He later became the plant manager at Suburban Propane, where he worked for 15 years, showcasing his admirable work ethic throughout his life.

Bill's dedication to his community was evident in his active participation in various local organizations. He was a lifelong member of the Monument Beach Sportsman Club, a Boy Scout troop leader, and the director of the Youth Gun Safety program with the Bourne Police. A passionate motorcycle enthusiast, he proudly joined the Lifetime Harley Owners Group, often riding his beloved bike along scenic routes.

Bill had a deep love for nature and the outdoors. He spent countless days fishing, riding his Harley, and basking in the warmth of Florida during the winters. His affection for animals, especially Siamese cats, brought joy to his life and those around him. Above all, Bill cherished his family. He is survived by his loving children; his son, Bradford Soule and his wife Anne; grandchild, Brian Soule and his wife Elizabeth; great grandchildren, Madelyn & Lydia; his son, Brian Soule; and his daughter Pamela (Soule) Smoyer. He held a special place in his heart for his grandchildren, whose laughter and love filled his days.

Bill's spirit was characterized by his engaging nature. He took great pleasure in gathering with his neighbors and friends, never shying away from a conversation on any topic. His ability to listen and genuinely care about the well-being of others made him a treasured companion and confidant.

Despite the sorrow of his passing, Bill's legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. He was preceded in death by his brother Lawrence (Lenny) and sister Phyllis, son-in-law, Navy Veteran, Tim Smoyer and beloved grandson, Scott Soule, whose memory will forever be cherished.

A private funeral service will be held to honor Bill's remarkable life. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the nursing staff at LaBelle Health & Rehabilitation Center for the compassionate care they provided.

In remembrance of William D. Soule, let us celebrate a life well-lived, marked by service, love, and laughter. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

It has been a while since Mr. Soule moved from Bourne and my grandfather passed away, but I still thought of him every year down in Florida and hoped he was doing well. Thinking of you, his family, and sending regards from myself and my grandmother Theresa.
