Rev. William Albert Sowells Jr. told this old world "Goodbye" on August 31st, 2024, in Clarksville, Arkansas, at the age of 92. Born June 11th, 1932, in Sugar Grove, Arkansas, William was a beloved son of William Albert Sr. and Grace (Brady) Sowells.
William married Neoma (Still) Sowells of Yellville, Arkansas, on November 2, 1952. Together they ministered at numerous churches across the United States, including; California, Florida, Kentucky, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Arkansas, before settling in Clarksville in 2004. William was a proud veteran of the United States Army, where he served in the Korean War as an ammunition truck driver from 1952-1954. In his younger days, he was either the pastor or associate pastor for many Pentecostal Churches, including eleven in Arkansas, two in Oklahoma, and two in Missouri. He was a school bus and truck driver for many years and loved to ride his horse Firecracker. William loved to play horseshoes with anyone who would play with him, anytime and on family days and holidays. He loved to preach, teach sunday school and sing. Out of many songs, a couple of his favorite where "Born Again Children" and "Goodbye World, Goodbye." William was know around the Clarksville area as "grandpa" and as a walker. He would walk several miles a day, if the weather permitted. William will be missed by all who knew him.
William is survived by one son; William "Bill" and wife Diana Sowells of Dora, Arkansas, one daughter; Doris Villines of Clarksville, Arkansas, nine grandchildren; Phillip and Aubree Sowells, Brandee and Gabe MacPeek, Zack and Jennifer Sowells, Leo Jr. and Alisha Villines, LaJeana and Tristan Reynolds, Samuel and Jessica Villines, Gene and Tonya Williams, Michael Riley, and Larry and Sarah Riley; Twenty-four great-grandchildren; Four great-great grandchildren and another coming in January 2025; one brother, Robert "Bob" and Virginia Sowells of Kibler, Arkansas; one brother in law, Clyde and Judy Still of Leadhill, Arkansas; two sister in laws, Nora(Still) Keeter of Yellville, Arkansas and Myrtle Still of Sidney, Arkansas; as well as numerous Nieces and Nephews. William is also survived by many other family, friends, and church families. He is preceded in passing by his parents, William Albert Sr. and Grace (Brady) Sowells; His beloved wife of 63 years, Neoma (Still) Sowells; one son in law, Rev. Leo Villines Sr.; One great-grandson, J.J. Lagoy; His father and mother in law, Hovey and Mattie (Watts) Still; and twelve brothers, sisters, half brothers, and half sisters.
There will be a Visitation from 6pm-8pm, Thursday, September 5th, 2024 at Lewis Funeral Chapel, located at 4817 Kelley Highway,
Fort Smith, Arkansas. There will be a Funeral Service at 11:00am, Friday, September 6th, 2024, at Lewis Funeral Chapel, with Interment to follow at the U.S. National Cemetery in
Fort Smith, Arkansas. All services are under the careful direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
