Bill will always be a bud. I first met him at CSULB in 1972-2 my freshman year. I could always feel comfortable at his place. A truly good guy.

I was privileged to first meet Bill Spanks in 1968, while he was studying to become a grade school teacher at Fullerton College.
He and my ex-husband Ward D Walters, as well as Robert Calkins and William and Vickie Schramm were all very close friends throughout their primary and high school careers in Whittier, CA. Bill, Bob and Bill Schramm were the best men at our wedding in 1971.
Bill chose to teach in Mecca, CA, near the Salton Sea for many years. But he traveled back to Whittier to visit all of us frequently.
Bill played bass fiddle with Ward, Bob and Bill Schramm on guitars. They played at family gatherings and also entertained hospital patients during the holidays.
Bill was a quiet and sweet man, with a keen intellect and a wicked chess game.
It is so sad that three good friends have passed at such young ages over the last few years (Bob Calkins 2002 and Ward Walters 2003).
My sympathies to Bill's family and friends. May God bless you Bill.
