William Strickler Obituary

Published by Legacy on Nov. 29, 2025.
Colonel William Hugh Strickler (Ret.), born March 9, 1935, passed away November 15, 2025, in Mount Dora, Florida. Bill was born in Clarksburg, West Virginia. His parents, Johnson Perry Strickler and Margaret Wright Strickler, his stepfather William Moorhouse, and his former wife Janet Green Black (mother of Bill's two sons) all passed away before him.

Bill's life revolved around love and support for family, country, and community. After graduating Marshall University in West Virginia, he began a career in the U.S. Army including tours in Germany, Vietnam, and Korea. Upon returning to the DC area from Korea, Bill met his current wife, Sandra Deeley, formerly of Morgantown, West Virginia. His education continued with graduation with the US Army War College class of 1977 while completing his master's in public administration at Shippensburg State College, Pennsylvania.

Following retirement, Bill and Sandy relocated to West Virginia where he helped found and directed Preston County's Chamber of Commerce, Economic Development Authority, and Convention and Visitors Bureau. Several years later, he retired again to focus on family, enjoy his dogs, prepare firewood for winter, play golf and finally relocation to Florida where Bill enjoyed walking, golf, and new friends in Lake County.

Bill was admired for his commitment to everything he pursued, and his family will deeply feel his absence. Bill is survived by his wife; sons, Scott Strickler (Donna) and Todd Strickler (Patty); granddaughter, Emily Strickler; step-granddaughters, Brittany Simms (Marcus) and Erica Nakutis (Beau); and three step-great-grandchildren: Cole and Alex Nakutis, and Parker Simms.

Interment will be at a later at the WV National Cemetery, Grafton, West Virginia
