BAMBERG - William Ernest "Billy" Thomas, 72, of Bamberg, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at home on August 19, 2025, with his wife of almost 50 years, Brenda, by his side.

Born on June 19, 1953, in Orangeburg, South Carolina, Billy lived a life of faith, kindness and craftsmanship. A devoted follower of Christ, he sought to know God in both word and deed. His gentle spirit, generous heart and steadfast faith left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

A 1971 graduate of Bamberg-Ehrhardt High School, Billy was employed by the South Carolina Department of Transportation for 33 years, retiring in 2005. After his retirement, he was able to devote more time to his skills in woodworking and painting as well as his love of fishing on the Edisto River. His craftsmanship was more than a trade - - it was an expression of patience, beauty and care. He enjoyed refinishing furniture, particularly antiques. His original paintings and prints hang in many homes and businesses throughout the area.

Billy was a loyal member of Main Street United Methodist Church in Bamberg and served on various church committees throughout his life.

He was also a member of Ornan Lodge #38 A.F.M. where he served in various capacities including Worshipful Master in 1982.

Billy is survived by his wife, Brenda O'Quinn Thomas; his brother-in-law, Doug Hambrick and wife, Stacey, of Warner Robins, Georgia; and his poodles, Cuddles, Tillie and Dew. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Lillie Mae Walling Thomas and his infant sister, all of Bamberg; as well as his beloved poodles Chloee, Cole, Mollie and Sully.

Family and friends are invited to gather to remember Billy on Friday, August 22, 2025 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Folk Funeral Home in Denmark, South Carolina. Intermit will follow immediately after the service at South End Cemetery in Bamberg, South Carolina. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2025 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
