William Thompson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bonney Watson Funeral Home - Federal Way on Feb. 14, 2026.
William (Bill) Thompson. February 14, 1942 – February 9, 2026

Loving husband, father, brother, friend, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle, Bill passed from this life on a sunny Pacific Northwest day that would've been perfect for an early morning round of golf with a Starbucks tall Pike Place Roast in hand. At nine years old, Bill began mowing greens at Kitsap Golf Course, a stone's throw away from his boyhood home in Silverdale; in high school and junior college he would go on to become a Washington state champ and later won several U.S. Army championships during his service years. Bill worked for 30 years at Puget Sound Energy, operating mainframe computer systems, where he met lifelong friends (and golf partners). Bill loved shoes, travel and coffee in equal measure, often having a bag just for shoes on his many trips around the globe with his wife Lois. He spent his early days camping and clam digging across the country with his parents and brothers, and later with his children Ann and Paul in a VW bus, always with golf clubs in tow, and always with coffee either over a campfire or from a drive-through (he would settle for McDonald's but far preferred Starbucks). Most don't know that Bill also enjoyed cooking, as long as blueberry pancakes and bacon were the requested menu, though he could be convinced to dive into waffles on occasion. Bill was mostly known as a man of few words with a dry humor and wit who could be described as a "stubborn Norwegian" right up until his passing.

Bill is survived by his wife of 23 years Lois, his children Ann (David) and Paul (Whitney), grandchildren Elsa and Perrin and brothers Tom (Corinne) and Ted (Tina). Bill was introduced to the love of his life Lois, by her daughter Teena while working at Bellevue Golf Course (his home away from home). The welcome he received from her family added great happiness to his life and many adventures together as a blended family with Lois' children Teena, Jay (Patti) and Todd, grandchildren Sara (Eric), Kelle (Carter), Hunter (Tom), Doug (Jodie), Sydney (Matt) and Kristen (Steve), Micah, Jada, Janae; and great grandchildren Clayton, Avery, Brinley, Sam, Max, Eli, LJ and Kaycie, Owen, Tyler, Wesley.

The family would like to thank everyone that helped with Bill's care as dementia and Parkinson's became daily struggles including the doctors and nurses at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Tacoma, the nurses at Brookdale Foundation House in Federal Way, Franciscan Hospice and especially his niece Dana for rides, jokes and care and son-in-law Jay for his steadfast stewardship.

To celebrate Bill's Valentine's Day birthday, the family asks that you enjoy a cup of coffee with a loved one at Starbucks, and top the day off with a round of golf, take a road trip and stop for a vanilla shake and French fries (all of his favorite things). If you're moved to honor Bill's love of golf, the family encourages donations to the First Tee of Greater Seattle in his memory.

Memorial service will take place on March 10, 2026 at 2 pm at St. Luke's Lutheran, 515 S. 312th Street, Federal Way, WA 98003.
