William Raymond Underhill II

William Raymond Underhill II, known to many as Bill, passed away on December 24, 2025. He was born on August 8, 1948, in DeLand, Florida.

Bill was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Jill Marie Wheeler, and by his sisters, Connie Lagoni and Linda Hendrix. He is survived by his son, Ray Underhill, and Ray's wife, Rachele; his cherished grandsons, Lance and Price Wheeler; his brother, Joe Underhill, and Joe's wife, Sandra; and his sister, Marva Widhalm, and her husband, Bob; as well as several nieces and nephews and their children.

Bill began his career as an insurance salesman and proudly served as a member of the National Guard. He later joined the Volusia County Sheriff's Department, where he dedicated 21 years of service to his community. After retiring from law enforcement, Bill created a successful foliage business, which kept him busy and fulfilled throughout his retirement.

Bill found great joy in playing golf and fishing with his son, Ray, and the two spent countless hours together on the baseball field, building memories that will be treasured forever. A devoted Florida Gators fan, Bill rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on his team. He never met a stranger and had a natural gift for conversation, easily connecting with anyone he met through his warmth, friendliness, and genuine interest in others.

Bill will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his strong work ethic, and the kindness and joy he brought into the lives of all who knew him.

A casual Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, January 18, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Northwest Square Courtyard, 238 N. Clara Ave., DeLand, FL 32720. Family and friends are welcome to drop in anytime during the afternoon to share memories and celebrate Bill's life.
