William West Obituary

William Walter West

William Walter West was called home and into the loving embrace of his wife Lucinda on Dec. 14th 2025. He was a great son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, patriot and US Army Veteran.

Bill was born Dec 15th 1952 in Moses Lake. He was a hometown boy through and through and a little bit of a Moses Lake celebrity. In High School Bill played football and wrestled and was the first ever "Mister Moses Lake". He met his adoring Wife Lucinda in Drivers' Education and they were High School Sweethearts, graduating in 1971.

Shortly after graduation Bill enlisted in the US Army as an infantryman. Bill and Lucinda got engaged and a few months later were married Dec. 28th 1971 and spent the 1st year of their marriage in the Republic of Panama where he was first assigned.

After Panama, Bill and Lucinda came back to the states where they served at Fort Benning, Georgia, where they welcomed their daughter Amy. In 1977 Bill was reassigned to the 2nd Infantry Division on the DMZ in the Republic of Korea. Upon return to the states, Bill and Lucinda were posted to Fort Lewis, Washington where their second daughter Sarah was born but was only able to be with them for 4 days before she passed away. Their third Daughter Emily arrived 4 years later completing their family. Bill was honorably discharged from the Army after nearly 8 years of service in 1979. The West Family moved back to Moses Lake in 1985.

Bill, following in his Father's footsteps, sold cars for the majority of his adult life. He prided himself on giving his customers a friendly and honest experience. He also loved rodeo as evidenced by his signature western style of dress. He spent decades of his life as a committee member of the Moses Lake Rodeo Association. In addition to that he was an active member of the Elk's Lodge serving in leadership positions there many times throughout his life.

Bill was known for his big friendly smile and Cowboy Hat. He never shied away from telling a good story. He was asked often to be the MC at events that needed someone with charisma which he had in droves. He stayed in contact with friends from High School and Bill and Lucinda attended every MLHS Class of 71 reunion they could. He loved to golf and play cards in the homes of good friends or at the Elks and Eagles Lodges.

Bill was proceeded in death by his father, Merle C. "Windy" West, his mother, Dorothy West and his sister, Kim, the love of his life, Lucinda West (nee Schaat) and their daughter, Sarah West.

He is survived by his daughters, Amy Breitenstein (Eric) and Emily Duvall (Michael), and his grandson Walter Duvall, and two brothers, Steven West and Scott West.

A Memorial Service for Bill will be held Jan. 17th 2025 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Division St. at 11AM followed by military honors at Guarding Angels Cemetery.
